me/
I am almost sure that these are dates of some events of my career which I like to remember
Not all of them, but some facts make me remember of good things, which is part of all this projects and jobs.
Many Jobs of this site was made in CoWork with my assistants, Cristiano, Sergio Barros, Flavia, Guilherme, Pedro, Renata, Ana Areia, Evelyn, Sir Dorietto, Bruno, Aninha, Paula Esteves, amazing people with multiples skills.
In this timeline maybe I miss dates in 1 year for more or less.
It’s a boy.
This is when I discovered advertising.
My cousin Clayson, who worked in Dupont's marketing department, showed me some wonderful work their agency, Y & R, had developed.
I went crazy, and it instantly became my life´s dream.
This is what I wanted for myself!
This blessed cousin of mine, after a few months, and many requests from me, gave me a piece of paper with a name and phone number on it.
I started calling on that same day.
But nothing came through ....they never had time to answer my call.
I achieved the independence I longed for.
I started working!
But not with advertising yet.
My dear Uncle Fernando understood my quest for independence, and got me a job.
Wooo. Now I already had my own resources.
_ And I kept calling ....
I really annoyed the Secretaries at Young.
I annoyed them so much that I started working at Y & R as an intern:)
Désio, who was the head of creation at that time, gave me an internship at the layout and final artwork studio.
Désio Rules.
I loved it all, and really wanted to stay there, but didn't know a thing.
So I took on the posture of being someone who does what no one else wants to do.
I´d wash brushes, made past-ups, marked letters, set up layouts, swept the floor, picked up snacks, made folders and small mock-ups.
No fussing. Work is Work.
Till today I practice this principle.
_ I practiced BMX, and won the Nescau bicycle Motocross championship.
When I was 15, this was awesome.
On weekends, we would gather our "gang" with several cyclists, jumping ramps, trails and competitions once in a while.
DJ Rubens Peterlongo was a member of the team, we were the BIKE PUNKS, and even had painted helmets and shirts :)
_ At that time, I worked in the morning, was an intern in the afternoon and studied at night.
And went to the gym before all of this.
That´s how I made it work.
My mother didn't understand why I did all of this together at such an early age.
But I was very happy, so she supported it.
One time, she just couldn't handle it, though.
I had to spend the night at work, and since she didn´t agree with this, she called the owner of the agency in the middle of the night, and demanded that I´d come home.
I was around 15, and the Agency team couldn´t believe it.
I nearly died of embarrassment, and they almost died of laughter.
Mothers are mothers.
I began studying photography.
And now, as well as taking pictures, I developed them and made PB enlargements, as well as touch ups on the negatives.
This is when I fell in love with photography.
Books and more books, I researched a lot.
And paid really close attention to everything that moved. LOL
Edmilson Paoli was an Assistant at Young, he showed me the ropes at the Agency, and I learnt the trade.
I gained a friend and job.
I was hired.
As I was very young and restless, they gave me 2 cute nicknames:
Devil Baby and Menudo.
C´mon ... but there was no way out, the names stuck.
And then I began as a full-time employee at the Agency, during the day I worked as an Assistant and at night I learnt how to operate the photography lab.
This was quite interesting, as the laboratory technician, Paulão, that lived in Franco da Rocha, couldn't miss his train home, so he prepared me and taught me how to get around, so he could leave early.
Due to this, I was able to practice what I had learnt at the photography course, experimenting and developing my layouts, quite a bit.
And most importantly, I began providing better services for the agency.
I love Franco da Rocha!
At this time, my desire for experimenting and researching started getting more intense.
I´d photocopy the entire images and assembled negatives.
I was an Assistant for Paschoal Fabra Neto and Toninho Neto.
Two picky, but great guys.
Paschoal introduced me to the production refinement concept and taught me to be careful with layout.
He helped me to focus my work.
I learnt lots.
Eduardo Fisher promoted me to Art Director:)
Elza Ivo, a brilliant professional from the planning department, adopted me.
And through her, I accessed larger and more complex jobs.
This made all the difference.
Had an Interview with Fontoura, who was the Creation VP at Norton.
He saw my portfolio, smiled, complimented me, closed the folder and generously said:
Loved it, you are exactly what I need.
I liked you so much, I'm going to do something for your own good... I'm not going to hire you, I'm going to talk to Nelson Porto.
Nelson Porto was the Creation VP at Y&R and Fabio Fernandes was the DC.
At the time, Young was one of the most creative and awarded agencies in the Brazilian advertising market.
Fabio was highlighted among awards, frequently, and the agency was growing together.
Can you believe Fontoura actually talked to them?
And they hired me!!!
Fontoura was right, I needed a place like that, it was an unbelievable turning point.
They bet on me.
Provided me with coaching, an opportunity, and a nice salary raise.
After 3 months, I began working together with Fabio Fernandes.
It Was great:)
I was able to live alone, and right next to the Agency in order to arrive even earlier.
My mother didn't like this too much.
_ At that time, I met two brilliant guys, Bob Kincey and Bob Kincey Jr.
Bob senior, was a type of worldwide global planning, administrator, consultant, fun guru professional.
A cool guy.
And a jeep fan.
Bob junior was an assistant at Young.
A great companion during tough times.
He had an old pickup, called Little darling.
We got along.
We´d spend our nights working. Sometimes we would work at the Agency till 3am, and then go out and play billiards.
Lot´s of fun.
And with this same intensity, I met Camargo senior and Camargo Junior at Y&R.
Camargo Junior, an excellent and articulate DA, and I faced many challenges over the years.
We were each other’s godparents at our weddings.
_ During this year, the Bobs encouraged me, and I finally bought a 76 jeep which was my childhood dream. Which I´ve been collecting/restoring until today.
It was all I ever wanted.
Too good to be true. I couldn't believe it.
I was thankful every day.
I met Mr Celestino Brandão, a,k.a, Tino.
A brilliant, intelligent, articulate guy with an enviable network. He was also an artist that worked with iron and aluminum.
One of my mentors till today.
I went back to working with Fabio Fernandes, however, now we were starting F/Nazca S & S.
Edu Lima and I were a team.
Edu is a brilliant writer; we worked on amazing jobs, nonstop, not getting enough sleep, but watching F/Nazca grow.
I had the rare privilege of seeing all that happen.
The story of how the Agency began is exciting.
I began working at a consecrated company called Almap, directed by my idols Marcello Serpa and José Luiz Madeira.
Those who lived through this era know what Almap already represented back then.
It was the greatest of all my dreams.
Prayer works.
Working at Almap was the first part of my career plan.
Working with the best ad man in the country, and testing myself.
And in this case, Marcello was also the best art director.
This provided me with a double challenge.
The work was incredible.
Wonderful jobs were launched at every table, all the time.
Marcello pulled us up. My job evolved daily, it was incredible.
People wonder why I was so devoted.
At that time, there was the famous O Vaticano, touch up/graphic spot.
And many times, coincidentally, 4 or 5 DA´s from Almap would meet up there, at around 2 or 3am. Everyone wanted to develop the best work.
We would go crazy laughing with each other.
Such unity.
An incredible Vibe.
In the previous year, I had two finalist ads presented during my performance in Cannes. And this year, at Almap, I had 9 finalists and a Gold Lion winner.
I had a car accident two weeks before going to Cannes for the first time.
But I won my first Lion award, a gold lion.
Marcello and Chester went up on the stage, picked up the award, and held up a poster, which said:
Andery you are also here.
Think about it, my idol did that for me???
Prayer really works.
_ I got a proposal from Tomas Lorente from Dm9.
It was tempting but not in my plans, even though Tomas was a gentleman and mastered many subjects, I didn´t go.
But we became friends.
One of the few things I regret in my career is not having worked with Tomas.
_ I met a young student from Santos, he was talented and committed, and on weekends he would meet up with me at Almap to borrow some advertising books, and chat about his work...
A decade later, young Cristiano was one of the 5 most awarded DA´s in England.
I was so proud of him.
Putting in the hours does work.
Me and Luiz Sanches, were an informal team for many jobs, demanding quality in everything we did, even if it led to exhaustion. It was insane.
We started developing a working method that was very efficient and productive.
And it was fun as hell.
And due to this, at that time, all I wanted to do was live inside the Agency.
Words can't explain how cool it was.
Once again, only those who experienced it know how it was.
Rato was our dear and faithful squire.
My initial plan was to stay for 1 year, but I was only able to actually leave the Agency after about 3 years.
There was no way out, I had to progress with my career plan.
I went back to F/Nazca.
2nd part of the plan.
Use all of my knowledge and unfold it.
I really enjoy working with print media, and at F/Nazca we implemented strong graphic production, a supplier portfolio, and this year won 6 Lion awards for print media.
As far as I can remember, this year, I was the DA that received most awards at the CCSP.
All of the ad campaigns we worked on during this year were awarded.
My work at Almap actually generated fruits.
And being at F/Nazca did also.
Due to my performance, I received a proposal from Cazarin, the CEO at Lowe, to be Creation VP.
He bet on me for the mission of changing Renault´s decision of ending their contract with the agency.
This was the third part of the plan.
Going to an agency out of the creative agency circuit, in order to develop it and learn about management.
I Went.
And we kept Renault´s account.
We had 2 weeks to do so.
It was a huge team effort.
Camargo also went along. We worked together, on everything, from campaigns until the building´s construction work.
I was called to be a judge in Cannes and nominated to the Caboré Award.
_ We received the highest performance score our client, Nestlé, had ever given an agency.
It was funny, because on the day we received the score; the CEO at Nestle stood up and said smiling:
Well, from now on you can only get worse.
He was a Genius.
_ My brother Emil, suggested I go through the Hoffman Process.
If you want to understand yourself, do it. It was Amazing.
Worth looking into.
The process was vital to the successful performance of all my future actions.
_ I met Andreas Heininger, an extraordinary photographer.
His comprehensive culture and generous smile, always provided special moments, good stories and unusual jobs.
I took the AFF skydiving course with Rodrão.
Now I could dive alone and safely.
I began skydiving to eliminate my fear of heights.
Going on a crazy sunset dive and watching the red sun from up there, was priceless.
I fell in love with this sport.
_ Project for the 27th Brazilian advertisement yearbook with Camargo and the team.
_ We worked on the Casa do Vaticano magazine with Burti graphics, along with Camargo and the team, as well as more than 50 guest professionals, including photographers, writers and visual artists, from various parts of the world.
_ I Met Emmanuel from Young Creatives. A spectacular guy with an equally spectacular project.
I couldn't obtain a sponsorship from the agency, so I had to collaborate personally. During 2 consecutive years, I sponsored the Youngs.
It was very enriching to personally participate in this project. I met new professionals, new points of view, and recycled a lot of knowledge as well.
_ Competition for Nissan's account in order to avoid TBWA´s global alignment.
We won, and Nissan only kept their contract with Lowe in Brazil.
The campaign we worked on, was classified as the most creative and original in all 100 Nissan offices in the world.
_ And the career plan was going well.
_ We presented an exhibition at the National Congress against slavery in Brazil.
It was so honorable.
Me presenting an exhibition at the National Congress?
And against slavery in Brazil?
It was worthy, too good and even seemed to be a lie.
I was vibrant. It was very special.
We had 2 weeks to produce the entire campaign and exhibition.
A new record was established, 67 hours awake working, with a team in São Paulo and then another team in Brasilia.
This was volunteer work and we didn't have any funding.
Everything worked out. We finished 1:30 hrs. before the presentation at the Congress.
This topic affected me personally so much that I had to do something else.
It was visceral.
_ So that´s when I started a sabbatical and volunteer period at the OIT in Brasilia.
During this period, I accompanied a team from the federal police, Labor investigators and the OIT, as a spectator, during the search and release process for slave laborers in southern Pará.
In one day, I saw 75 people set free.
_ At the end of the year I went back to Almap.
I had gone through many experiences, I was emotionally exhausted, now I just want to work on good jobs and be among friends.
_ Sergio Valente, the CEO at Dm9, invited me to be part of his team as a DC.
I went back to my career plan.
This was the 4th step.
Manage a large agency.
Absolute focus on this target.
I entered the company with a commitment that if my performance was good I could be VP.
_ We participated in about 13 or 14 competition processes during this 1 year. And, if I'm not mistaken, we won 11 new accounts.
I got promoted to creation VP after 9 months working at Dm9.
At this time, we would deliver about 1,500 jobs per year.
With 3 options per job, this was loads of work.
I definitely did not die of boredom at that time.
_ To relieve the strong stress generated by the job, I started practicing balloon parachuting during the week.
I´d leave at 4:30 am, took about 1:15 hrs. to arrive in Boituva, would get equipped for the Freefall, the balloon would go up at about 6:30, I´d see the sunrise from up there, jumped, and at 9:30 I was back at the Agency with a generous smile stamped on my face.
This renewed me.
_ From this passion for parachuting, a CoWork opportunity with Rodrão, began for the Escola Queda Livre de Paraquedismo (Freefall skydiving school).
We were restarting the school pretty much from scratch.
The construction was low cost, and whenever possible, we would work on all sorts of improvements, ourselves.
I got a week off for that.
Tools, screws, paints, it was so nice to work with this.
I love Leroy Merlin.
The school turned out to be beautiful. And productive.
Today, it´s the school that most sells skydiving outings in the country.
My son Julinho was born:)
Dm9 won 0 Lion awards in Cannes.
Dm9 won The Agency of the Year.
Dear Luiz Sanches invited me to return to Almap:)
_ I re-met Claudinha, she always took care of me, since my first time at Almap.
She always helped those focused on work, with the practical things in life.
She´s a kind of guardian angel, that also guarantees fun days.
My first global campaign
for Havaianas.
Once again, Luiz and I were creating together.
My beautiful daughter Mariana was born:)
Second global campaign for Havaianas.
It's hard to progress with a job that Marcello idealized, and still be unique.
It's always a delightful challenge.
I love this brand. And the Havaianas case is spectacular.
_ I went on my first Basejump.
In the middle of a forest in the South, 143m, off a bridge were trains were passing, in the middle of a forest.
I almost crapped my pants, but I jumped.
Actually, it's practically the same feeling I´ve felt throughout my entire career:
I almost crapped my pants, but I faced it. lol
_ I started to work together with Rynaldo Gondim.
An adorable male individual with the rare talent of making you cry when reading one of his scripts.
It's amazing.
And if you prefer, he can also make you laugh.
A gift from God.
He's an airplane pilot and I´m a parachutist.
Which is already pretty funny.
And during our day-to-day it was pretty much the same, each one knows their role, which avoids fights.
Just production. And fun :)
_ After 20 years, I switched from car and furniture restorations to building recycled toys with my kids.
We won the April award for VW Trucks.
1 weeping session.
We won the April award for VW Trucks again.
2 weeping sessions.
_ We also won the Southeast and National Professionals of the year awards.
No more tears.
_ My former assistant ,Gustavo Dorietto, won his first Gold Lion award.
And became an associate DC in Chicago.
_ My assistant, Aninha, was promoted to DA.
_ We created the third global campaign for Havaianas. What can I say?
Brasilio and the team at 6B worked on the art. It was a Scandal.
Looked incredible.
_ A brilliant Year, great jobs and important prizes, all wonderful, but I'm exhausted.
A year filled with very hard work.
I began the year on the beach with my family.
I love being with my family.
I started working with Arteze, great professional and DJ in the other hours, great partner!
Do you know when to stop? Yeah...
I lost 25 kg
I woke up at 4:30 to train
I got divorced
I moved
I did 2 surgeries
I started to paint
And I made myself have perfect days!
At Almap I started to take care of Social and Retail VW !!!
With an incredible team, I like to go to work !!!
Prize is always an ego massage, the only campaign chosen by Latin American D&AD, VW Trucks. There have been 3 campaigns among the most premisses of the world in these 7 years of Almap ...
Incredible even, was to divorce and on the sixth day living alone, I met, I saw closely a dream of mine, a woman brother friend, the type that watches game with a breja in hand, and charming female, all at the same time ...
Yes, I introduce you to Dani, an Incredible divine gift, my muse, who inspires life.
We dance tango on Thursdays !!! lol
I painted more than 30 pictures for her, we made a book of our own.
From watching my children painting, I learned a little and I went without shame, I did it. And it was really cool.
My children are great, we have entered every day more in the arts, it has been a delirium sees the painting ...
Working recycled, generating new forms ...
Now our family is this, Mari, Dani, Ju and me !!!
In the meantime I went to rest in Brotas in the inn Broto D'Agua of my friend Ronaldo Caran.
Dani and I went together.
Papo comes, papo vai, he telling me of the difficulties of the tourism in Brotas .. Saturday went to sleep.
On Sunday I woke up with a whole plan in my head, how to leverage Brotas tourism!
Dani snapped when she heard. She has, after all, become my creative twin.
We went back to São Paulo, together with 3 friends, we got the campaign up and running.
I returned to Brotas, campaign under my arm, Ronaldo put the right people at the right time in the right place, and it was a spectacle.
We approve the campaign, we win friends, we are promoting progress.
Many good fruits will still emerge from this cowork.
Brothers Campana and singer Daniel welcome our list of collaborators, I can not wait to see everything working.
Meet Brotas, it's a Radically Sweet Experience!
Year dedicated to work, to prizes, and also year of drawing the trip to make the Way of Santiago.
About the prizes, this year I won with my incredible collaborators a golden lion and 25 more prizes with VW trucks !!!
35 years of advertising, 31 years winning international prizes !!!
I finished a cycle, in Almap I won my first gold lion there in 1997, and now, I completed 20 years earning the last one for the Almap gold too !!!
In the technical file, signed with me my dear cousin Tiago Padilia, cousins of blood and brothers of profession and principles !!!
Dani and I are married, and we live our simple, delicious life with plants, spices, our dogs, friends, family and children.
She is putting our trip to Santiago.
Everything foreseen in my career plan, trip to Santiago in the year that I will turn 50!
I'm doing a bank of hours, working 10 months without weekends, not to leave my clients in the hand while I'm out doing the Way !!!
At Almap, I took over the direction of creation of the social of VW, in fact only the position and not the title, and guess: VW was the digital brand of the Year !!! Work of all, with a personal happiness of those who have this mark in the blood, in the history itself and in the heart! What an immense satisfaction! Very fan of this brand and the people behind it !!!
End of the year with the kids, my year to spend the upset with them !!! Let's enjoy each other very much !!!
The children grow and grow, they bring the sweetness in the look, in the traces, but already they are strong in the opinions, in the desires, incredible to see and to follow all these changes !!!!
Still in the career plan, next year, beyond the 50 years, there will be significant changes. Year of following the head and the heart.
Every day, helping others seems to be the only way to full happiness !!!
Dani filled my heart with love, only then I began to get an idea of how great he is, and how much love I am able to share.
Amazing!!!
